Jakarta - A member of the Indonesian Police's Densus 88 counterterrorism unit, Bripda Ignatius Dwi Frisco Sirage, tragically lost his life due to a gunshot wound inflicted by his senior officer at the Rusun Polri Cikeas in Gunung Putri, Bogor, West Java on Sunday (July 23) early morning.

The spokesperson for Densus 88, Kombes Aswin Siregar, denied the rumors suggesting that Bripda Ignatius was shot after an altercation with his senior colleague. Instead, he claimed that the incident was a result of negligence on the part of Bripda Ignatius' senior officers, Bripda IMS and Bripka IG.

Aswin explained that Bripda Ignatius was fatally shot when his senior officer was taking a firearm out of a bag, and the weapon accidentally discharged, hitting another officer in front of him. The firearm in question was registered under Bripda IMS.

"There was no shooting. There was no quarrel. The incident was caused by negligence when the weapon was being taken out of the bag, resulting in it firing and hitting another officer in front," Aswin stated when asked about the incident on Thursday (July 27).

In response to the incident, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, urged the police to thoroughly investigate the case involving the shooting of Bripda Ignatius. He mentioned that the case was already being handled by the police, and he saw no need to discuss it further with the Chief of the Indonesian National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

An autopsy conducted by the Polri Kramat Jati Hospital revealed a gunshot wound at the back of Bripda Ignatius' neck, which penetrated from the left ear to the right.

The body of Bripda Ignatius was handed over to his family and transported to Pontianak, West Kalimantan, on Tuesday (July 25).

However, a policing expert from the Institute for Security and Strategic Studies (ISESS), Bambang Rukminto, expressed doubt about the narrative provided by the police regarding the shooting incident. He questioned the type of firearm and ammunition that hit Bripda Ignatius, causing a gunshot wound from the back of his left ear to the right.

Bambang was concerned that this case might echo the previous incident involving the shooting of Brigadir J at the official residence of former Kadiv Propam Polri, Ferdy Sambo, in July 2022. At that time, the police claimed that Brigadir J was killed in a shootout with Richard Eliezer Pudihang Lumiu or Bharada E, who caught him inappropriately approaching Ferdy Sambo's wife, Putri Candrawathi.

Bambang highlighted the importance of thoroughly investigating incidents involving firearms misuse by police officers, as past occurrences of negligence leading to the loss of life must not be repeated. He emphasized that taking someone's life with a firearm is a crime that should be subject to criminal punishment rather than light or moderate disciplinary or ethical sanctions.

"If the handling of this case is not transparent and the communication surrounding it remains suspicious, the public's assumption will inevitably liken it to the Brigadir J case part II," Bambang warned.

As the case unfolds, the public eagerly awaits a transparent investigation to address the concerns and ensure justice for the tragic loss of Bripda Ignatius's life.
