Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has underlined the government's commitment to making necessary adjustments to the Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Bekasi Light Rail Transit (Jabodebek LRT) project in response to any identified shortcomings.
Following a test ride on the
LRT train departing from Harjamukti LRT Station, Depok, on Thursday, Jokowi
asserted that the light rail project stands as Indonesia's pioneering
initiative, alongside the mass rapid transit (MRT) and the Jakarta-Bandung
high-speed train.
Acknowledging the possibility
of imperfections, he stressed that addressing any deficiencies and technical
issues is a standard aspect of project development. Speaking at the Dukuh Atas
LRT Station in Jakarta, the president appealed to all parties not to expect the
LRT to be flawless immediately.
Ensuring the safety and
comfort of passengers remains a paramount focus for the government, and Jokowi
assured that the schedule for public LRT operations will not be hastened. He
disclosed that the LRT project is predominantly executed by the domestic
industry, with more than 60 percent of its components sourced locally.
State-owned train manufacturer
PT INKA Persero handles the production of LRT trains, while state-owned
construction company PT Adhi Karya Persero Tbk (ADHI) oversees the LRT
infrastructure construction.
Jokowi expressed optimism that
the operation of the LRT would alleviate traffic congestion in Jakarta and its
satellite cities. Moreover, he emphasized that the LRT service will extend not
only to the Cibubur line but also to Bekasi and Tangerang.
Anticipating a seamless
integration of transportation services, the Dukuh Atas LRT Station will serve
as a pivotal meeting point for MRT, commuter rail, airport trains, and
Transjakarta buses.
Distinguished by its advanced
technology, the Jabodebek LRT employs Grade of Automation (GoA) Level 3,
surpassing that of the Jakarta MRT and South Sumatra LRT. This cutting-edge
technology enables driverless train operation while efficiently regulating the
distance between trains, ensuring safety is consistently maintained.
Having undergone extensive
testing since 2022, the Jabodebek LRT is presently undergoing a more intensive
trial period from July 12 to August 2023. The government remains steadfast in
its commitment to enhance public transportation and looks forward to the
positive impact of the LRT in the region.
